Probably the best explanation I've ever seen of how a diff works.

For those who want a basic understanding of how a diff works, this vintage film explains the principle with great clarity!

That's an excellent description there. I'm somewhat temped to make one of those stick gear models myself! Would look cool on the work desk
Brilliant. I must admit I didn't know how they worked (not having had to work on one yet!) This is excellent.
Great description.
You've never made one with your Meccano set gears?

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
Wow, someome had time on their hands. Would really love to have all those proportioning type ones at hand and get a "feel" of them.
Did you notice in one of the last frames, it appears that the 36 Chev or whatever it is , appears to have a grub screw holding the cross shaft in place.
I have often thought that by modifying the Land Rover diff by adding a grub screw to the shaft, most of the diff failures wiould not happen, as they nearly all seem to start with the shaft rotating.
It seems the Yanks seemed to know good engineering long before the Poms, who still seem not to know how to build a diff.
What a great movie .
