    I'm lost on this one!!

Here is the scene, had to do a 'Rubic's Cube' this morning to get a vehicle out for a gearbox replacement, several Land Rovers needed to be started and moved to get at the vehicle needing attention.
These two vehicles (called Car 1 & 2) are both + Positive earth, not that it matters but they are, Car 1 wouldn't start (cold n damp++), tip fuel down throat of carb, still no start, jump start it, out with leads connect to Car 1, Car 2 battery terminals are not connected, leads applied to Car 2 battery with an almighty flash shock horror wrong polarity, reverse leads attempt to start Car 1 still no go.
At this point I disconnect jump leads and connect battery leads to Car 2 battery, start engine in Car 2, reconnect jump leads to Car 2 battery, start Car 1,.
Problem!!!, now I notice in Car 2 amp meter is not charging?????, turn on headlights etc amp meter shows discharge, normally Car 2 amp meter would have been reading 15+amps, now just sitting in the middle showing neither charge or discharge.
A quick check on Car 1 to make sure that I had not accidentally changed the polarity of Car 1, NO, it still reads a charge when the lights are switched on and rev engine.
What could have happened to Car 2 when I accidently reversed the polarity, nothing was connected electrically from Car 2 at the time of incident???, Im at a loss, can anyone point me in the right direction. Fan belt has good tension, leads are not loose on generator, battery terminals are clean n tight
    cheers Dennis

Is it possible the generator has given up and it's just a coincidence.
Of course you would have to check that a wire wasn't left off when the battery was re-connected.
Also does it have a red generator light on the dash and is it working?
Might just be a blown fuse on the charge circuit.
    Cheers, Kyle

Maybe the use of civilian jumper leads had repercutions

Going through the floor and having no mud dropping on your head is just cheating

Well whatever the problem with 110-850 was it ?'must have resolved itself, all I did today in between jobs was to raise the bonnet (right back against screen), remove fuse box cover, check fuse, it's OK move fuse in holder, connect battery, turn on Ign, red light comes on, start engine, at fast idle amp meter reading 20+, who knows??? anyway cheers Dennis
