    Disco 3 gearbox dies

My D3 has just experienced ongoing failures that end with car immobile with no gears and engine fine. Suspension and HDC lights illuminate steady orange. After coming to standstill with B Double up my clicker I turned ignition off then on and system check comes up OK. Car then has all gears for about 1.50kms then same series of failures. Nothing visually amiss!
Car waiting to be fixed or torched! Anyone with similar probs?.

Get the fault codes read as a starting point.

Thanks for that. I have had mutilple failures since, all the same but at random and have codes cleared. LR dealers (2) now reckon it is hi pressure fuel pump but car has now done 400 kims with no failure so suspect crook fuel. Could be this but will see. Gunna keep driving till it fails again.

Further to my problem. Failure messages on the dash were Eng Failure, HDC fail, Limited Gears available, and Suspension System Light on steady orange as was DSC fail light. Engine does not stop so when I came to a halt I turned off the ignition then turned back on and system check comes up clear. This also reinstates all gears and I was able to drive normally until the next failure. Whilst heading back to Bris drove just on 200kms with no failure, then a failure (as above) restarted engine drove another 150 kms to next failure. Restart engine drove 10 kms then 50kms bewteen failures. Codes reset and system checked with suspect being the Hi pressure fuel pump. This was not replaced (could not get it done in under a week) so I drove back north and have now done well over 400kms with no failures so I suspect I might have taken on a load of crook dieso.

Hopefully if it was caused by bad fuel then no damage has been done to the HP pump or the injectors. Whilst I can see gbox faults being generated if the engine isn't running properly and suspension faults if the ABS ecu is generating any faults, I can only think that Terrain Response is generating faults when the gbox is in limp mode thereby causing the ABS and suspension system faults.

I had the exact same problem with my D3. It would happen mostly under load. Dealer diagnosed it as the high pressure fuel pump (being down on pressure). Replaced high pressure fuel pump and hasn't missed a beat since.

    D3 Dies with multiple faults.

    Thanks to all,

Problem I think was dirty fuel from long range tank. Gearbox had never been changed and car had been serviced by Austral!!!!
My solution was to sell the vehicle.
