part of the problem for me is that a friend's almost identical d2 with 455000km on the clock and is obviously had it ,went better than mine until we swapped map sensors but both seem to work ok.Have since swapped them back, but can't test again for quite a while, anyway mine's chipped now and would thrash it.
There should be no reason at all that a rebuilt one will not 'be quite right'
Start looking at other stuff. MAF readings ok?
Is it Auto or Manual?
sounds more like a tuning issue to me, are the injectors coded into the ECU , have you removed blocked converter, what size exhaust ? how much boost are you getting. go for a run and log it on the nanocom, post the csv file here for us the have a look.Quote:
The engine had been dusted when we bought it, no.1 bore was had it, it was re sleeved and all bored out 020, New pistons rings bearings etc ,block decked, New valves , head skimmed , runs really well but drops off over about 2800 rpm, we were told not to rebuild it but did, have had it checked by a lr place and they agree it's not quite right and they say it's probably because we rebuilt it, which I don't agree with, now had it chipped goes better but still lame after about 2800 rpm. Has been on the nanocom and auto logic, nothing wrong.

as you suggested your MAF is stuffed, putting a loaner on a chipped engine wont harm it, where did you hear that one from, there seems to be a lot of misinformation out there. (at 455k your friends MAF will be stuffed too)

It was the map sensor not the maf,I only meant there is no point test my car against my friends unchipped one to see if a different map makes a difference, will post a csv later but the kids broke my laptop (was accidental) so I'm on a tablet, and readings range from 58 at idle to a peak of 620, boost is about 238 minus ambient, but the boost controller seems to spike a bit compared to my friends one.The map is looking like it is good but I do wonder if it's lying, guess need to attach a boost gauge, and all sensors are clean.

Problems at higher rpm suggest airflow and/or boost problems. How is the turbo?Quote:

Id hazard a guess that there is a lot more to that than just a modern diesel engine wont rebuild well. Labour, time off the road for owner, trouble shooting problems, warranty etc. There is a bigger picture there than just the engine for a major workshop, dealer doing the whole shooting match.Quote:

:D DM, I forgot I even posted it on there. I thought they may be interested as they dont get them over there, and that forum is quite good for the v8's
Here is a log from yesterday on the way home,( you will need to remove the zip extension, haven't got a smaller file and this was too big as csv ),logs from the other td5 look much smoother than this one, its an auto also,got everything pulled off the turbo at the moment checking, intercooler pipe has started de-laminating but would not yet be blocking it I feel,just checking the boost modulator at he minute.
Does this car have a snorkel and when was the air filter changed last?
You can see a vacuum being created in the air box
Not saying its your issue but have a look at the airbox mod a little more free flowing air wont hurt.
