Depends, if you do them right then a rebuilt Td5 should continue to give you excellent service for a long time.
What level of rebuild?
Hi,I would like too hear from other members who have rebuilt a td5 and how they go compared to a factory healthy one, we were told they do not rebuild well and never seem quite right, anyone had problems?
cheers James
Have a search for PS Simpson's extensive rebuild thread and decide for yourself. Others will chime in here.
cheers, DL
The two TD5 rebuild threads of recent times that I recall were by Offtrack and PSimpson7. I'll see if I can find them for you.
As said what do you call a rebuild? Most modern diesels in 4x4s dont rebuild well. Case in point at work if a diesel Toyota, Ranger or Colorado engine pops, a new engine goes in and the old one is just robbed for spares.

I did find the thread of yours that i thought i remembered, but it was a head replacement rather than a full rebuild. It stuck in my memory as a full rebuild for some reason.
I'd Best wait for the OP to let us know what type of rebuild he's looking at before linking to any threads.![]()
The engine had been dusted when we bought it, no.1 bore was had it, it was re sleeved and all bored out 020, New pistons rings bearings etc ,block decked, New valves , head skimmed , runs really well but drops off over about 2800 rpm, we were told not to rebuild it but did, have had it checked by a lr place and they agree it's not quite right and they say it's probably because we rebuilt it, which I don't agree with, now had it chipped goes better but still lame after about 2800 rpm. Has been on the nanocom and auto logic, nothing wrong.
cheers James
