    Best threadlocker on m22 x 2.5 nut?

I'm after the best way to lock a nut on a m22mm threaded shaft (4140 shaft and ht / gr8 nut)
I don't have the luxury of running the nut up to a shank
I know I can use loctite type products but I never have to move this nut again so am not sure this is the strongest
I am trying to avoid welding ( a small tig radius weld may do the job) because I can't do that inhouse
I'm wondering if jb weld or similar would be stronger when inserted into the thread?
It's not a high temperature situation <100c but may come into contact with oils and grease and must hold through shock and vibration
I'm wondering if there is a thread insert material to permanently lock the nut onto the threaded shaft?

loctite 638 special retainer ( good for upto 150 degrees)

( they do a 648 with higher temp 170 degrees but have no experience of this)

will need heat to remove in future.

both offer 25N/mm2 ( square..no small 2 on phone) shear

make sure part are degreased first..

other threadlock show higher shear but 638is based on a 0.25mm clearance so is actually more on a close fitting thread

have used 277 before and its not a perm as 638

have ammended above as you need to consider clearance

277 shows 32N/mm2 this is based on thread

638shows lower at 25N/mm2. but is based on a 0.25mm gap..when used on a close thread it outperforms thread lock in my experience

Can you drill a roll pin through the nut and shaft?

The 638 looks the goods especially since I'm not tensioning the nut during application, the .25 gap is probably relevant to m22 thread as well.

    Just thinking.......
If I used a second nut (not threadlocked) to tension the loctited nut against would you still recommend the 638?
I want to avoid drilling because of the introduced weakness.

if you are using two nuts locked together I would still use loctite..but be warned its going to be hell to break it apart again without some substantial heat.

I used to make hydraulic mining equipment and this technique is pretty much permanant

locking two nuts they have to be very tight or they will still move as one.

    good luck
