    V8 engine identification

    Hi all,
    Could those in the know pls give me a hand ID'ing the engine I'm trying to rebuild. It's from an 82. 2 door rangie classic. It has an ADR approval plate with it stating 5 lt .
    However I have found it to have no rocker tube, instead it has " slipper style rockers". Also flat top pistons. And different steel rocker covers.i found on strip down these numbers under the timing chain cover .image.jpg more pictures to follow.....

    Also it has a Holley carb and the numbers 4400/5516 stamped on the block.
    Any help with this would be greatly apriciated

    The engine is a Leyland P76 engine, originally 4.4 litre but if its been resleeved to a bigger bore than the stock 3.5" will be whatever. The pistons look like Holden ones, a common replacement in the 80s. The number stamped on the block is for a P76 engine but stamped in an odd spot. Normally the number is stamped adjacent to the LH bellhousing protrusion on the rear of the block.

    One other thing, it appeared to be wider when i had it sat on the floor in one peice before stripdown than my 3.5? But could be an optical illusion maybe?

    Beeuty, thanks for the bullet fast reply lol. Are you 100% sure? Cos I got to spend a few bucks on this and need to be sure. Pls don't take that wrongly .

    The bore diameter is 94.2ish m/m

    Yes the P76 block is about 20mm higher, the long stroke conversion of a 3.5 went smoother with long conrods. They made the block taller so they could use stock piston pin heights, IE you can use Rover pistons for a rebuild.
    Stock bore is 88.9mm (3.5") so 94mm will be a resleeve to 5 litres. My mate had one built in Adelaide. The liners should be stepped liners, IE the head gasket sits on the liner not the block. You will be using 3.9 litre head gaskets for a rebuild.

    Just looked where you said beeuty, and it is stamped there too. so definitely a p76 then ???

    If so are they any good? Bit late to ask now I spose lol after just spending 3 weeks porting and polishing the heads
