Need new air compressor - which one?

    Hi all

I am running 285/75 tyres on my 130 and I have never really tested my on board air set up.

Well, after some beach driving on the weekend, it got tested. The on board air set up comprises of an old Thomas "Big Red" air compressor that feeds into two x 5 litre air tanks with a 100psi cut off switch.

Let's just say the compressor struggled, then got too hot and cut out. It took a long time to get my tyres from 18 psi back to 36psi.

What are my alternatives/other people using for 12v compressors? I want to stay with electric.

    Cheers

my defer came with a bushranger max air....i guessing it would be the original version as they now have the Max Air II Max Air 2

mine would be at least 10 years old....probably older

its supplies air to the ARB lockers

has never cut out while pumping tyres up

it gets run nearly weekly to pump up footballs

i have never check the air intake.....which remines me i should have a look

its hard wired into the car with maybe a 2L tank attached

The BushRanger Max-Air brand seem one of the most popular here too. The only niggle is the fuse holder tends to melt so people replace it with a heavier duty item.
I use the Warn VTC but its a costly bit of kit and not everyone's idea of a portable compressor.

The latest twin pot offering from ARB looks impressive but my mates was popping fuses on a regular basis untill the dealer replaced it with anew one which appears to be fine.

I'd go for the MAX Air Range.....fast and efficient.

You can always parallel 2 compressors up
Lots of Vic comp guys use the 'boss' type pimped on ebay
    Seems fairly reliable

    Hi

I used a DrAir one recently with my P38 and it did the job with no fuss.

I am planning to mount a Viair 400C under my bonnet eventually though

Had a look at one my mate bought the other day from super cheap was the biggest one they do and was blown away at how much air that thing could move.
