Who knows? It's not like these giant companies do wild and crazy things like, erm, supplying information about their products. Perhaps the black 3M stuff isn't available and so Woolies are selling this instead. Whenever the Wurth stuff arrives I'll do a comparison. With a blowtorch.

The Wurth stuff arrived today. Looks great! Thanks for the tip, Jack. But it took six weeks, five different people, a few emails, and about three or four phone calls after from my first email - wow.

Anyway, both companies were fine to deal with and both products are just what you need for this sort of a job.

    No Worries Davo

Great to know the stuff finally arrived. Wurth are much quicker to Tassie, opening an account helped.
I'm sure I offered to send you some from here.

The 3M and Wurth mastic must be similar product.
The 3M is slightly softer, the Wurth may handle the heat better. Dunno.

Please, advise the result when you use it. It's worked for me for a number of years and never gone hard or melted.

    All the best,
    Richard

So I did a comparison a little while ago, putting the 3M stuff on one side of a grommet to help it seal and the Wurth stuff on the other side. It's been pretty hot for a long time up here, and I found that the 3M goop has stayed very sticky and soft, while the Wurth goop wasn't nearly as sticky and has stayed much harder. So I'll probably use the Wurth caulk for most things as it seems to handle the heat much better. I wonder if the 3M product is more suited to a cold climate? Thanks again for telling me about it, too.

    A pleasure to help.

Our climatic conditions are the exact opposite to yours Davo.
The Wurth product for me has always been spot on, there are places exposed to the sun for the past 8 years on one car and it has never looked like failing.

Owning old dungers prone to leaking has me keeping some extra simply stuck to a convenient spot on the car. When you need it, peel some off.

    Cheers,
    Richard

    Thanks for adding that information.

But, after all that trouble I went to, I don't believe they're making it again!
