genuine, stoped all the noises
Just discovered it's time to replace the front brake pads in the defender for the first time. I had no luck at all with brake pads in my last couple of Range Rovers, the first time the pads got dusty or went through water, they started squealing like banshees and never stopped. What pads can people recommend that won't end up doing this? Or am I best to stick with the bendix 4x4 pads and apply some sort of goo?
genuine, stoped all the noises
genuine gets my vote.....i have never used after market, M R stock after market but they suggest for a few dollars more go genuine
I just put in EBC Greenstuff on the recommendations of a few people, done about 3k on them now and 2 small water crossings going up to cooktown, no squeal so far and they seem to work well, I have not noticed much dust but my Defender is filthy at the moment anyway.
I bought them from RDA and they cost $85 for the 4 front pads.

I've replaced pads with Bendex ones on both the Disco I had and my current Defender. Taken them both through snow, sand, mud, cow **** and beyond. No Squeals at all.
I got front and rears for $80 each end from AutoBahn. Repco also sell em.
I used cheapies that i couldnt quieten down[chamfered edges etc] and genuine from MR as weeds said, also genuine pads come with the fitting kit[springs/pins and split pins]
I put Bendix on the front of my county probably 2 or more years ago - never had any issues with squealing (did change the rotors too at the same time). Previously used genuine and they were quiet too.
Front pads on the defender dont squeal, You can use any pads on the front no probs, The only rear pads to use are Genuine in LR box, with shims as per instructions, they are not bad at about $70.00 locally from the Dealers either, all aftermarket rear pads squeal. You dont need any goo
What's a set of genuine front pads worth?
Bendix with the titanium strip are not supposed to squeal and don't need bedding in.
Alternatively a lot of people put anti brake squeal stuff on the back of the pads where they meet the caliper. I have never used it but had people swear by it at work.
cheers
