C'mon, anyone, regards frank.
I have 2 sets of new head bolts for my 300TDi, one set has a Bearmach label on the bag with markings on the bolt head of "231" on the bottom and above it the number "8" or it could be the letter "S".
The other set has no brand name on the packet, first 12mm bolts, the bottom (6 o'clock) is the number "10.9" and starting in clockwise direction the words (letters) "POOJA FORGED", (hope they're not made of POO).
The 10mm bolts have at the bottom (6 o'clock) a symbol that resembles a Mitsubishi Diamond, except that the top triangle is a Dot, at 12 o'clock is the number 10.9.
Does anyone know what the Original Land Rover head bolts had on them, what grade, etc..
The Bearmach bolts have a cheap nasty look about them and the symbols on top are extremely hard to read, on some it is impossile.
One set was provided with the new AMC head, the other came as a VRS/Head Gasket set, any advice on which set to use would be appreciated, Thanks, Regards Frank.
PS. The old bolts that I am not sure whether, if I used them again, would be on their second or third use have "OC" at the top and "10.9" at the bottom.
C'mon, anyone, regards frank.
Hi Frank, I'm afraid I can't add anything helpful other than go with your mechanical instincts; If the heads of the bolts have inconsistent and illegible markings then what sort of QC have they got?. I would almost reuse the OE bolts than use those
.
At the very least I would use the ones supplied with the AMC head.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Did the new head come from Turner Engineering? If so, use what they've provided as they know their stuff.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
My old (presumably original) bolts have:
QC
1 0 9
Stamped on the heads
(the QC could be OC)
I also have a complete set of "POOJA FORGED 10.9" bolts and
A set of PF10.9 for the large bolts and the 10mm with just 10.9 and a recessed head top - they may have a mitsubishi-like symbol.
I have used all 3 sets and all seem OK. The 2 newer sets came from paddocks. One with the new head and one with the head gasket kit.
Thanks all for the replies, Davo, no I got it from Landy Imports Australia, in Belmont near Newcastle, The "Pooja 10.9" bolts and the recessed head 10mm bolts with the Mitsi looking symbol came with the head along with an Elring VRS kit and a Victor Rienz Laminated steel gasket.
The bolts in the Bearmach bags have (on most of the bolt heads) impossible to read markings and they just don't look right.
JC, not sure how many times I have used the OC 10.9 bolts just removed so will mike them up and see how much stretch.
Ben the bolts with the "OC" 10.9 are the bolts that I just removed and have been used once that I know of and possibly twice, they (at least this set) are replacement bolts and I don't know if they were OE for 300TDi's, saying that they are by far the best looking of all, but I don't think I should chance them with a new head and steel gasket.
What a pleasure it is cleaning the block surface after having a steel laminated gasket, just a rub over with thinners and you could eat a meal off it, or as Dave (Blknight) says have neurosurgeons lining up to operate on it.
I ran a straight edge over the old head and I couldn't find the 7 thou. dip between 2 & 3 pots, I'll give the old head a thorough cleaning tomorrow and check again, surely the steel laminated gasket wouldn't pull a dip that big out of a warped head, let you know the results tomorrow, Regards Frank.
Hi Frank.
For what it's worth I have just had a look at mine, and the bolts have the same markings as your POOJA FORGED bolts. They have been there for approx. 40,000KM with no issues.
Tony
frank, have you done another HG?
No Mate! Just replacing the old head that had the warp in it, along with a few (well a lot) of cracks, with the new head i recently bought. The metal laminated gasket has been on this warped head for 2 years now and I haven't had a problem since I fitted it. No signs of blowing or leaking, great to clean up the block, no embedded gasket material from a composite gasket to scrape off, just a quick wipe over with thinners and it's spotless, Regards Frank.
