Thread: EGR blanking under warranty.

I know EGR blanking under warranty is a big no-no, many might say why bother if it fails the warranty will fix it .

Fine if your within coo-ee of a dealer (or can get JC on the blower)

So I've been thinking for those with new vehicles under warranty, & want to keep their engine clean,
what about putting in a simple blanking plate with a 8-10mm hole in it.

Apparantly it works a treat with LC200 V8 diesel, as discussed at LCOOL

basically the plate blocks enough exhaust gas off (and soot) to stop gunging up the intake and Valve itself but the hole in the plate lets just enough gas thru to fool the sensor and stop error codes.

the last post on LCOOL raises a good point

How does the ECM know if the EGR is blanked off...does it sensed the flow?
What if we blanked off the EGR feed from the exhaust and instead introduce a positive air flow from the turbo compressed air in its place. This way we can fool the ECM and have clean air instead of the gunk that comes from the exhaust.

Or you could just flash a new fuel map giving it an operating strategy of zero, then as required return to standard fuel file.
