    water pump woes pt2

Have a 97 300 tdi auto that I recently swapped the water pump over on. After a few short drives the belt started to make that lovely squealing noise again. I removed and cleaned the belt and checked the pulleys etc and noticed that the new pump has lots of up and down play in the shaft, as much as the one I took out. The new one is a Britparts pump. Dodgy part or is there something else i missed? Also found some rubber build up on the tension pulley and the power steering pulley. At the moment the squealing can be kept at bay with some talc, so the noise isn't the pump itself.

Driving me crazy, should've bought the Pajero......

Britpart should be called ****part, get a good quality pump and you will be sweet. I fitted an airtex one to mine back in june and no problems at all.

Sounds to me you have a idler bearing starting to sieze or siezed = check all belt pulleys or Maybe the penny trick as they call it in the uk ever google it or you just use a 5c or 10c coin behind the tensioner i
