Thread: Would you trust Britpart defender stub axles?

I've just replaced one on my 200tdi defender with one ex UK, so if you're not in a hurry, I can let you know how mine goes 😉. Along with bearings, lock washer, washer, lock nuts and gaskets cost me $192AUD delivered to my door, four days after payment was received.

Diana, i have been given these to fit over the years, had no issues other than poor thread finish that can cause a bit of a pain to start the retaining nuts etc. all other dimensions and quality seem fine. I use the higher quality ones but if you are ordering ex uk etc, then for that price I'd use them.

Mine were Bearmach ones from Devon4x4. Cost me around £100 for 2 stubs and a set of D1 rear pads delivered to my door about 6 months ago.

At £20 for the Bearmach ones, and £15 for Britpart I was happy to pay the extra £5.
They're probably both made in the same factory and I'm just kidding myself, but it makes me feel better

I just recently replaced the right rear stub axle on my old defender, I bought mine from the guys at British Offroad for a little over $100 new but not Genuine LR a "B" part.

Also looking through the Karcraft pricelist it's a little cheaper, they also have the "B" part.

I don't know, I've had such a hard time with anything britpart that I just buy genuine these days. I have just received my new genuine ones from britcar. Costs a lot more, but I don't want any trouble.

I recently made a purchase from Karcraft. I asked if it was a Britpart. The reply --- "We do not, have never and never will stock Britpart anything." --- Make of it what you will.

LRDirect give you the full choice Hub Stub Salisbury Axle 110 130 Def - Land Rover Part FTC1740 I used the oem from Bearmach on my 110,they were fine, it was the axle casing that broke.Perhaps I should have used the Britpart ones,damned site easier to change and I was carrying spares.Give them a go,can afford an extra as a spare!

What could possibly go wrong?

I would think that the design of the LR stub-axle makes it one of the most safety-critical as well as one of the most highly loaded vehicle components. I wouldn't trust it's manufacture to the same mob who supplies other manifestly unfit-for-purpose components. If the things that are evident to the eye- like thread finish as JC has stated- are no good, what can you expect of the things that are undetectable, like material quality? With all the close-tolerance processes that would go into making a stub axle, to put it on the market for 15 quid they are surely cutting corners somewhere.
