    200TDI timing belt tools

    Hi everyone

I've been lurking here a while (admitadly I often browse without even logging in), and haven't had the need to post due to most answers being found

Anyway, rather specific question. My 1993 Discovery (200TDI) is due a Timing belt in the next few weeks. I have read the Rover factory workshop manual, and been reading numerous online thread regarding this. Most of it seems reasonably straight forward, however the workshop manual mention special tool LST 127 "Crankshaft damper restrainer"; which appears to be for holding the crank still whilst the crank bolt is undone or done up. I've found a tool "kit" on ebay which says it suits 300TDI, and has this tool plus the puller, and the 2 pins. Will a 300TDI "restrainer" (and puller also) work on a 200TDI engine? If no, can anyone point me in the direction of where to purchase 200TDI specific tools?

    Thanks in advance!

The timing pin kit and flywheel locking pin usually comes in the same kit and suits both 300 and 200. The crank shaft locking tool is normally sold separate and is a large piece of steel used to lock the crankshaft while undoing the balancer retaining nut.

I've got the locking pin kit and the crank locking tool I use on my 300 tdi, along with the special torque wrench for the belt, your more than welcome to borrow if you like.

    Cheers,

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

    Hi Tony

Thank you very much for your offer! So does that mean your 300tdi crank locking tool would fit my 200tdi?
I don't mind buying the tools myself, as I am doing allot of mileage in the car, and will probably be up for a timing belt every 3 years or so (and plan on keeping the car). That said I did price one of those small deflection torque wrenches yesterday, and nearly fell over with fright!
I'll be buying the parts this week, will let you know soon if I'd like to take you up on your offer

    Thanks
    Aaron.

I'm 99% sure the crank retaining tool fits a 200 tdi. Fairly sure we used it on Bluemini's 200tdi when we did the belt.

    Maybe someone can confirm.

Hey Aaron, I have some of the bits you need (home made of course, not proper ones) you can take a look at, 5 minutes to make. Belt tension really needs a torque gauge, I've done a couple with torque wrenches and got away with it bur it's nowhere near ideal.
Giz a call after work one arvo.

Thanks Wayne. I'm still pricing around for deflection torque wrenches like this: Warren & Brown Deflecting Beam Torque Wrench 1/2'' (10-180Nm). #322500 (random one I quickly found with google). As I understand it a deflecting beam type like that will work fine. Need to give you a buzz about scrounging up some Suzuki bits anyway
