Post REGASSING AN ENGEL WITH HYCHILL

    Hi all,

Have had some auto aircon training and experience in a past life,
so dug my old 30 l engel (the old yellow type) out for a service,
didnt seem to pull down much less than 15 to 20 C.
    It was still running R12.

I am a hychill HR12 convert as it can be purchased from Bursons Auto for $20 to 30 dollars FOR a 300 gm can plus $50 for the adapter.
Of course i already have charge manifold, gauges and vac pump etc.
Which would probably cost $300 to 400 secondhand, up to $1000 NEW.

Hychill is am australian product, HFC gases are the future as R134A is
already restricted in europe from fitting to new cars.
Data sheets attached. Have serviced a number of cars already and this
refrigerant performs closer to R12, which always provided superior cooling
and lower head press. I also noticed the car compressors ran substantially quieter, and you only need half the quantity compared to R134A.

My mate suggested that these older engels can be easily overcharged (which i subsequently did !!!!) and he heard 30 grams is the max charge (i assume for R134A )

anyway thats my 2 bobs worth

    regards
    OZ
I started with 80 psi static and OAT 28 C. Cooliing was poor at 14 C, compressot felt hot, then dropped pressure in 10 psi increments with increased cooling performance till it settled at - 7 C at around 40 psi.
I dropped a FEW psi off and noticed no improvement so stayed with the 40 psi static. Remember if your OAT is cooler static gas press will be lower.
Most engels dont have a service port fitting, you may have to have one installed by soldering a shraeder type 45 degree male flare onto the 1/4 inch pipe on top of compressor that is crimped and bent over form factory service.

The 30 l engel I have read normally only drops to minus 5 to 10 degrees C,
so am happy with the outcome (bought the unit at a garden sale for $50
    nearly 20 years ago)
