you should not have to shim the pump as it should be the same as the original. Check that you have not mad an error in fitment and someway mounted it skew if or the pully on the wrong way.
Hi all I replaced my water pump on my 300 tdi today but now my belt will not stay on. it idles ok for a minute or so then the belt starts to track off to the front and cuts it up. I have already destroyed 2 new belts and one old one. Do i need to shim the new water pump to get it back in alignment? I would not think you would have to do that.
don't want to break another new belt as this is getting expensive.

I concur re the power steering pump,
so after a day of checking everything and even putting on the PS pulley on backwards. i finally did the 5 cent piece trick behind the tensionor and the belt stayed on.
looks like its time for a new belt tensionor
