Thread: disco 200tdi gearbox drumming in 5th

Hi Guys and gals,
Prepping the 200tdi to go on a big trip this summer (queensland and fraser island) and noticed the gearbox doing the following:
*no unusual noises in all gears but 5th
*smooth shifts with no issues into all gears
*5th gear sounds like its a low pitch kinda drumming that doesnt happen when i press the clutch and no noise in 4th or any other gear
*5th gear sounds like its metalic rumbling (for a lack of a better word) while im decelerating

Now im suspecting gearbox bearings in 5th gear, anybody know 100% or experienced this? would i be better of getting a second hand LT77 or converting to R380 or rebuilding mine?
