I'm not sure on the dust filtering capability of an oil-bath filter. But here there is a MF135 (very early model) which originally had an oil bath filter.
It was turbocharged to what was a modest increase in power (10-15%) and it began sucking the oil out of the cleaner and into the turbo.:(
Makes me wonder just how critical the sizing of those is for best operation?

First time I have heard of this as a problem with oil bath aircleaners - and they were used on virtually every car from the late 1920s (no aircleaner at all before then) until the 1960s when they were gradually replaced by paper element filters. Some cars continued to use oil bath filters into the 1970s, including all Series Landrovers (except V8) to 1983, Citroen until 1975, and probably quite a few I can't immediately think of.Quote:

Someone on here recon the only test for an air filter was an oil test. So here is my Skoda Yeti after 15,000km with a K&N including a reasonable amount of dirt for a Yeti, Gunlom Falls and a few other NT roads in the dry season.
There oil analyst guy mentioned the high Aluminum but he didn't know this was only second oil change for this motor and it's still wearing in. Also plenty others have noted high aluminum on the 2.0TDI VW motor. Even though he mentioned it as high, it's only 18ppm and 10 - 30ppm is acceptable and it's more of a problem if it's seen with high silicon which it isn't.

The Disco oil is still coming and it will have included the Gibb River rd (with Mitchell Falls). I recon that should be a fair test of the K&N.

Strictly, I was referring to the Australian market - the 110 was only sold here with the V8 and Isuzu. However, I should add that the Isuzu engined Series 3 had a paper filter as well as the V8.Quote:
