I wouldn't use an Elring head gasket if you paid me, I only use the laminated metal gasket, if you buy a new head you will probably find that the new head manufacturer insists it be fitted with the new upgrade laminated steel gasket. Reuse your old original LR lash caps, the new caps are knocked out of a sheet of mild steel in some back street in Mumbai by some kid with a hammer and punch, if there not worn, number them and reuse, Regards Frank.

Thanks to all. I ended up getting a new replacement head from the UK for around $750 landed and new coolant tank. Had radiator flushed, hoses and belts replaced and after 20K she's sweet. If in same situation again I won't even consider having head checked and machined etc. just get a new one ordered in.
