Here's what it said on Ebay. Its a screen shot so not brilliant, but you'll get the gist! :)
I think you've got off track , the kids first 4wd, and no money ..half the stuff your talking about I can't even afford, and I own my own home,
My two bobs ..stick with the v8. They're great. Save your money ...if your putting 35 on you'll need it..drive it for a while you'll be amazed at what it can already do ...Gary
What about the Isuzu conversion? can a R380 cope the work? that engine is really cheap and I know it's eternal and perfect for the job. Besides logical mounting /gearbox /ancillery works what else do I have to do to put it in a TD5?
My TD5 is doing perfect and I have another one ready to change it when mine dies, however could put a 3.9 in a Series chassis with Defender drive train....
Guys the boy cant afford to run a V8, how do you think he is going to afford any of these conversions?
IMHO just to to do a tdi will cost $5k plus by the time you take all costs into account, about same for the isuzu motor if you can find a good one.
Start talking some of these other engines and you could be talking upwards of $10k quite easily.
As said engineering compliance inspections and certification could be well over $1000 on its own. Then if you get an engine that has problems that can explode the cost.
All great if you can source a lot of the bits cheap or free, but if you are paying for all will be expensive.
As I have said if you spend say $5k that is an awful lot of additional petrol between the economy of a diesel and the V8 and then take into account that diesel is significantly dearer than ULP in most Perth suburbs at up to 20c per litre. To be honest it is as cheap to drive our V8 Statesman based on the difference, actually much cheaper as the Statesman returns 10-11litres per 100km and the TD5 returns around 13 litres per 100km.
