    TD5 Torque Converter mod

Hi looking at the Ashcroft TD5 Torque Converter upgrade (medium 3.9 v8 type)
I am aware the mounting points are different.

My question is: does anyone know of a company in Aust who do this mod?

There are no trans places in Alice and freight along with trustworthy advice and quality work can be difficult interstate so am probably better off dealing with Ashcroft but thought id check first, any thoughts before I go OS?

    What's the actual mod?

I had my D1 converter rebuilt a few years back by Autoflite in Thomastown (Melb) Torque Converter | Streaker | Dominator | Eliminator | Autoflight Engineering | Melbourne

Pricing was reasonable at about $300 for full rebuilt including HD kevlar lockup clutch, furnace brazing the stator, hardened input spline and a couple of other upgrades I don't recall now.
The ZF converter wasn't an issue for them and when I spoke to them prior to sending it there they knew exactly what I was talking about (initial issue was lockup clutch wasn't locking up).
Only took them a couple of days to turn it around and I'd thoroughly recommend them.

Give them a call and have a chat.

As far as I'm aware if you order the medium TC (the largest that will fit the TD5) then it will fit the TD5. While the TC may have originated from a 3.9 it's made new to fit the TD5.

I got a heavy duty low stall TC fitted for the TD5 through Fluid Drive in Bendigo but im sure any fluid drive outlet has/can source these...

Bigger lockup clutch, billet spline, call fluid drive anywhere, if not Bendigo & talk to them....

    Hello,
I have Ashcroft HD in my TD5 it just bolts in, there are no mods you have to do I did order a new flex plate from them as well. I fitted it myself there are a few things to be careful of but if you take your time and check everything like any job no problems. It took me about a weekend to do.
There are quite a few transmission places the can modify your existing TC. Rover Tech here in Perth do a service that does that.

Forgot to say that if your engine is not tuned as remap, VNT etc, you cannot fit the HD Ashcroft converter. It has to have a good tune on your car they states this on there web site.

I have the tune sorted, hence the upgrade TC. What swayed you to the Ashcroft TC if you had trans places nearbye who could do the same job?

I probably didn't make myself really clear in the first post. I have researched the Ashcroft TC. I know it will bolt straight in. If an Aust supplier is used they will also have to mod the mounts on the 3.9 TC. I am attempting to find an Aust supplier who can provide the same thing as Ashcrofts before I send my money OS

    Hello,
All's good if you l ready have the tune sorted, as for Ashcroft TC I did a lot of research and to be truthful I found out afterwards about the modified one. Even so, I still would have gone the Ashcroft as they stand by their product and have done the R&D for it. As for the same thing here I do not know, but you would be welcome to my old one to play with, so you keep driving yours.
