    Attaching eyelet (drum-end) to synthetic winch rope

    I've just taken the synthetic rope (pink stuff) off my winch to wash it, as it was pretty grotty and it might get some use this week. When I got to the end of the rope whilst taking it off the winch, the end just pulled straight out of the crimped eyelet without the slightest resistance.
    Now I'm aware that this eyelet is not intended to take any strain at all and it's the initial wraps on the drum that anchor the rope etc, but I'd like to have it anchored at the eyelet even if only to make it easier to get the rope back on, and to stop it coming unwound when down to the last layer.
    I'm thinking of mixing up some epoxy to make the first inch of the rope kind of rigid, then crimping the eyelet onto this with a hammer or vice. Anyone got any better suggestions? The rope is hanging up to dry at present.

    just use a crmping tool and the right sized lug for it.

    any decent sparky should have a set..

    as a field fix I have melted pressed and then drilled the end of the rope just to get it to hang on enough to get the first 6 or 7 turns onto the winch, I know of some people who just tie a marlin spike hitch around the winch, snig it back to the melted end of the rope, then hand wind on some turns before putting some tension on.

    The mention of melting the rope jogged my brain, I wasn't thinking in terms of it being essentially plastic. I've melted the end enough to get a bit of a rigid section, then stuffed that in the end of some copper pipe, squashed and drilled the pipe. Should provide enough of an anchor to keep the end in place.

    I just got a suitable sized electrical terminal, and used a center punch to crimp it to the rope. A bit of tape around the crimp to cover any sharp edges.
    Been good for the couple of years since I did it.

    My new rope has only a short piece of alloy tubing that has been squashed then drilled. The exposed end of the rope has been melted.
