    Electric Window Woes

The passenger side front door's window on my 2003 Defender is playing up.

During a recent trip the window initially refused to close and when it did, it did so really really slowly.

Forgetting that there was an issue with the window the previous day the window was wound down again by a couple of inches. This time however it did not wind back up.

I've taken the door trim off tonight and have had a good look to check that nothing is broken and everything looks okay. I checked the voltage at the connector to the motor and both wires are showing 12v until the switch is pressed at which point the voltage at the connector is 0v on one wire or the other depending on which way the switch is pressed.

The motor had no problem winding the window down (and continues to not have a problem now the window is about half way down).

When I press the switch to wind the window up I can here a very faint noise from the motor.

What could the problem be? I would have thought that is the motor was happy to work one way it would certainly work the other or is there something more technical at work here?

I was thinking that maybe a duff wire was causing insufficient current getting to the motor. Is this a possibility? What is the best way to check?

Any other suggestions, hints and ideas appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

If its the same as the disco 2 then have a look at the little rollers that go in the tracks, they collapse from time to time.
If thats not it then pop the circular metal cover off the window motor and see if the rubber diaphragm has separated. Mine did and had the same symptoms.

I've just been for a bit more of an investigation to check for obvious things like the switch being faulty.

I checked the switch - this seems fine as it opened and closed the driver's side window without a problem. Once I plugged it back in to control the passenger window I still had no joy.

I unplugged and reconnected the plug at the window motor and hey presto the window wound back up without a problem.

I then wound the window down, then up, then down again. All of this was without any kind of problem until I came to wind the window back up for a final time and once again the window started moving slowly, then stopped. So I am back to where I was earlier.

The motor doesn't sound like it struggling and there are no unusual noises when it is working.
