    Brakes holding on

    Hi everyone,

I've spend the day tonkering with the disco, part of which involved fitting a new brake booster and master cylinder and fully bleeding the system.

The vehicle is a 98 Disco 300 Tdi, non abs.

Just took it for a test drive, everying going great, brakes are the best they've been in years, get 4-5km from home and the brakes are locked on fairly tight, car will move but only just and all 4 rotors, especially the front are really hot.

Sat for about 20-25mins, pressure resleased a bit, drove it a bit and same thing. Pedal feels rock hard.

    Any ideas?

    Matt

    Matt,
My bet would be on a blocked pipe or hose, are all the brakes locking or is it just one. I would expect the rotors to be hot if you have been giving it a workout.

Does it pull to one side when under brakes?

I had a similar occurrence when I had my Rangie after changing master cylinders, did you have any problems bleeding on any wheel?
Turned out one of the flexible hoses to a caliper had collapsed internally, you could push the fluid through with the pedal but it couldn't return.

The only other thing I can think of may be a pressure balance/reducer for the rear axle is out of whack, but don't know if they exist on a disco.

Ok, so after sitting on the side of the road for ages i decided to try pulling the brake pedal up and hey presto the brakes released. Drive for a bit and they start to bind up again, put my foot uner the pedal and lift up again and they release.

Would that be the plunger not adjusted correctly Blknight? If so, if i take the MC off again in the morning how do i adjust it?

I've worked it out, i didnt swap the spacer on the back of the old booster to the new one so the booster to pedal distance is to short

Oh well, off it comes again.
