I remember some time back I spoke to Andrew Graham (Allisport), as his staff got him for me he come on the phone
and said to me that if anyone tells you a tube manifold for a TD5 is a good thing ignore them.

I understand that he had just come back from yet another failed test.
I like the look of them but would prefer someone else to try it first

I cant see any reason why a tube manifold would be any less as good as a cast manifold, a tube manifold is less likely to crack unless the welding is crap.

I been watching some YouTube videos on Jap cars of late and the cheap manifolds don't last long and bits of bad weld can break off and kill a turbo pretty quick.

My question would be if that 1 piece plate that bolts to the head is going to continue to sheer the exhaust manifold bolts and I expect the answer will be yes.

    Why?

My thinking is it would distribute load and heat better than castings.

It cant flex in length to expand with the aluminium head, so the bolts sheer.

Why wouldn't it? I would expect it to "grow" as it heats.

Because of dissimilar metals.. same as what happens with the factory manifold

    correct, different expansion rates...

but the cast manifold has the rigidity to deal with the stress, a poorly made tube manifold will have its bits move about with the expansion and that will crack the welds.
