    Do Disco 1 v8 parts fit Disco 2 v8

    Hi all. i am asking if anyone can tell me,dose the 3.9 V8 heads off a Disco1 fits a 4L V8 Disco 2. And dose the cam fit as well. I still have my old Disco 1 which i did a lot of work to the top end. My new Disco 2 has a noise in one lifter so as i have it opened up i was thinking of changing the heads over as well.

    AFAIAA..

    Heads fit. Just side-by-side them to make sure.


    Cam - check if the retainer on 3.9 is thrust plate. If so yes for D2, but I believe that the profile is a little different. It'll still go. Lifters - same. Check them and get them radius ground before replacing.


    Change the head bolts for ARP studs.

    The D2 cam is entirely different where the chain gear and cam retainer go, the D1 cam and centre bolt would probably crash into the front cover. Note also you need to have the sump off to change the cam as the oil pickup is bolted to the inside of the front cover. I removed the front cover off my melted D2 V8 engine and snapped the pickup. I don't particularly care as its going to scrap but it might upset you mightily if you broke yours!

    Yep, what he said.

    I reckon the nose clears, but there are other considerations as Beeutey has pointed out.

    Thanks for the feedback.
    looks like i'm changing the heads this weekend if the boss gives me the go ahead.
    I mite leave the cam alone. Just a bit of a waste as my Disco 1 has a new stage 1 cam installed not long ago.
