Ipod

Hi, Has anyone tried fitting an Ipod so that it connects straight to the in-car stereo instead of using Itrip to run it off the radio.
Can't get a straight answer from the car stereo centers.
Regards :?:

Depends on your head unit. If your head unit has inputs (ie, RCA plugs, or a CD jack), you'd be able to connect it. Otherwise, just look for one of those tape adapter thingys...

I ended up lashing out all of $150 on an MP3 head unit. I can drive Melbourne->Adelaide on 1 CD.. (and 1 tank of fuel in the Commodore, or 3 in the Rangy ops: )

Thanks I'll try and get to the system but every thing in this rangie is held together with torqe screws so I have to get a new set of screw drivers first.
What is the head unit and how does it connect or work with the existing system.

The head unit is the unit in the dash (ie, the display, volume buttons, etc etc), as opposed to a whole system with amps, subs, mids, tweets, neon lights  ...

There's an easy way to tell if yours takes inputs. Does it have a CD socket on the front panel, or is there a button that says "aux" or similar? If not, you probably won't have inputs.

Is is a standard rangy radio? What year?

Is this Itrip a real go? Does the radio signal actual work for good quality reporoduction? I have fitted a reasonable head unit which plays MP3's etc, only problem is windows Media player won't convert my music to MP3's.

Thanks Macca, it’s a new RR with two CD players ( no cassette player ) and it will take me some time to get behind the dash but that looks like being the next job.
Hi Shifter, if you already have an MP3 player there would be little gain going for an Ipod unless you have other chores for it. I have close to 50 hours of music on my Ipod so far and this has only taken up about 1/8 of the memory space but I am going to use it to store digital stills and to enable me to carry address data with me.
Also Sifter, there is a program called Itunes for Apple Macs but I think it is now available for PCs and this program has some great operations that makes MP3 music storage a snak.
Hope this helps you.
