County doors on a Series III

    Hello again all

Took the mighty Sandie away on her first full-on 4WD adventure over June long weekend and loved it, but my door tops are a worry. I'd posted previously on the problems I have with them.

Does anyone definatively know if doors off a County will fit a series III?

If so I'll probably look to fitting these 1-piece doors with winding windows rather than source new door tops for the 2-piece series door.

    Any help or hints appreciated

    Richard

Yes Richard they will. I've got defender doors on my SIII, they're all the same size. Just make sure you get the door lock striker from the B-pillar when you get the doors.

I got mine a couple of years ago, getting a pair in good condition was difficult. Eventually a local supplier was able to get some from WA for $600ea but they work well, you can lan your elbow on the window sill without cramming it back behind the front glass, and you can hand your head out the window to reverse around obstacle. The increased ventilation is appreciated. Also if you're driving at night with the window down, you don't have two layers of glass creating reflections between you and your rear vision mirrors . And of course you get non vibrating large defender / county mirrors. The convex ones are especially handy.

I've got a pair of series door tops for $50ea if you want. One's in primer and the other is in black, they both have glass and had new felt runners installed bout a year ago(I bought them new a year ago). They just need the window locks from you S111 tops.

county doors are difficult to find in good nic. They almost always have rust at the bottom or other places in the frame.

One idea worth considering is buying either a county or defender door from a wreck that is worth almost nothing because of the condition of the frame/aluminum, just for the internals and the door card. You can get new defender doors (without internals) from landrover for about $400 each, if you get the parts manager on a good day. I'm not sure about the cost of county doors. Defender doors are better in that they have anti burst locks, and you can fit keyless entry solinoids if you want to get flash.

Admittedly, you will need to have it painted which is not cheap. However, you end up with a new door.

    Excellent

    Thanks guys, awesome feedback.

Larns, I think I'll check out one piece doors as I do like the idea of the bigger window, but I'll get back to you if I strike out

    Cheers
