I gave my D2a TD5 a 200K kms brithday of new coolant hoses. As I didn't have time to fit them I gave them to my local LR independant to install. While there he asked me if I wanted to replace the thermostat as well. I hadn't bought one of these but said to replace that as well, with stock off his shelf.
Now my D2a has done 200K kms without any cooling issues, my TM2 will always sit at 88-89 degrees when unloaded, or up to 94 when towing a heavy trailer.
After the install I did an unloaded country run and the TM2 sat at 94 degrees continually. I hooked up my Nanocom and the coolant temperature sat at 96 degrees all of the time.
Today and decided to reinstall my old thermostat and after a test run, the TM2 is back to 88-89 degrees and the Nanocom coolant temperature sits at 90 degrees.
When the specialist suggested replacing the thermostat I asked if the replacement was genuine, which he said it was.
The new one is on the left, my old one on the right.
I did a test in a saucepan to try to see what temperature each thermostat opened, but the results were inconclusve as it is hard to guage when they open due to the thermostat being encased in the plastic housing.
Is the "new" thermostat "genuine"???
Are there different temperature thermostats available? (I couldn't find any online)
I'll be taking the "new" thermostat back on Monday for a polite discussion with the mechanic.....
