Checked out the harness round the back of the gearbox for bad insulation, worn through patches etc? Can cause all sorts of issues.

    Hi Trev,

Lucky for me the electrics all checked out (well they did find a couple of suspect areas and re-tapped them - No Fix) and they found the lockup solenoid power signal was working as advertised...

Give TCT torque converters Springvale a call, they do a low stall heavy duty ( Modified v8, similar to Ashcrofts). Just fitted one to a mates td5, well worth it. You should be able to tell if the lock up clutch has been slipping, oil will be brown or black looking, bad smell. Will be fitting one to mine once I forget what a mongrel job it is.

    Cheers Greg

Do low stall converters work on standard motors? I thought they were only for stage 1 and up TD5's?

I doubt they will do that as it is a Warranty job. But I can keep it mind if they have a problem - Thanks PS how much are they?

Worked fine on this one much better to drive, (standard map). Although his was a reco converter from Queensland, lock up clutch was toast. Reminds me, must give Tombie a call, and see if I can talk him into selling me a map for it. P.S Haven't seen a bill yet but quote for converter was around $650- $700

My TD5 is stock with a low stall converter, no problems at all.
The converter in mine was fitted by Fluid drive in Bendigo, Im not sure if Fluid drive in Melbourne modify these themselves or source them somewhere.
(Had to wait for it to arrive)
From memory I was told the outer converter wasn't any bigger ( not even from a landrover, holden i think) the inside fins/turbine changed to give a lower stall, billet spline plus wider area on the lock-up clutch.
Seems to work well, changes at much Lower revs which suits the TD5.

Ashcroft uses the medium instead of small LR TC for the TD5 which is why stage 1 is recommended for his

My Disco is back on the road and the torque converter now locks up...

Pretty happy but found a couple of issues from the gearbox coming out.

Auto Gearbox Over Temp Light flashed on and off a couple of times as I accelerated hopefully just a dangling wire underneath I taped up, transfer case temp wire I guess, hope.
Found a plug with a loop (looks like it) hanging down near the front drive shaft so tucked it up.
Found Centre diff lock switch terminal broken off. I pulled the broken terminal out of the connecter so it didn't touch anything and ordered a new switch.

Now that the loose terminals are taped up the Auto Temp Light has stopped flashing.

Now back to driving the wheels off it..
