Electrical Bugs Starter motor or Immobiliser ?

Hi Again, Thanks for those who gave feedback on my other problems.

Here's the story, Disco 300TDi fitted with a basic bypass system for the immobiliser to allow me to park around Brisbane.
Last Sunday parked vehicle. after stopping I noticed 2 telstra interferrence towers (thought oh well I'll just use my "by pass" to get the disco started (standard practice) ). Attached connectors, while immobiliser still active, and would not start. Got out my manual checked fuses & relays no probs there.
RACQ came out and tapped the starter while I clicked the bypass and started the vehicle. He advised that starter motor was the problem.
Got home, disconnected bypass plugs to stop engine and still could not lock/unlock vehicle using key fob.
Next morning (cold starter) same result could not start vehicle or use key fob or start using trusty bypass system.
Took battery out of FOB and put back in Hey Presto! Key FOB worked.
Started vehicle with Key then tried bypass system with immobiliser active and it started well.

Can anyone offer advice from similiar experience ?
Can anyone recommend a tried & trusted Auto Leccy in Brisbane who could fix this?

I also have problems with my air con that keeps blowing fuses. I would really like to find a recommended Auto Electrician who understands Landrovers and does not use the $$shotgun$$ diagnosis method.

Hi Disco_TDi, I had the same problem, but at home. It took a while to sort out and to add to the problem the ******* at Austral Land Rover had put the wrong over ride key code on the security card.
I rang Bruce Lynton Land Rover and they were able to get the correct code from LR Australia.
While I was on the phone with Bruce Lynton’s service dept, the service manager said that things like the security sensors at certain chemists gave off a radio frequency that locked out the the fob key.
This rang an alarm, I had just purchased a set of Sennheiser wireless head phones. Went in and turned them off and went back to the disco but my fob key still did not work. My wife tried hers and the disco unlocked.
In the mean time Bruce Lyntons were organising a tow truck to get the disco over to them to find and fix the problem.
I rang them back to cancel the tow truck and while talking to them, told them about what had happened with the fobs. The service manager told me that some times just continuously pressing the fob key would eventually get it working or to be more accurate, it would cause the codes in the fob to ROLL around back to the codes that the disco’s receiving code’s were at when the receiver was block by the interference.
Your fob codes kept rolling but the disco’s codes could not follow.
This remedy fixed mine, hope this is of some help.

    Thanks Drivesafe, Interesting Notes

I understand the rolling code principle. I can see that after severe interferrence that perhaps the Disco was not following the keyfob. You will note that I had removed & refitted the battery in the keyfob to correct this.

Earlier Discos have an immobiliser frequency that is within the range of Telstra Mobile 122-125MHz (or something) I'm sure you can appreciate that as our mobile service improves (good) it's getting harder and harder to park safely around Brisbane (bad). I beleive that the newer Discos have a Freq of around 433Mhz thus still getting a limited amount of interference from electronic & comms equipment.

Some months ago I got my door/key overide code from Southside LR but on trying to use it at Tamborine Mtn found that it did not work. I now suspect wrong code over operator error as my wife & I both tried several times.

Today I will pickup my Disco from Doug Ritchie Autoelectrics next to Mike Halls Rover care in Slacks Creek. He is modifying my home made "Immobiliser Overide" wiring to make it more user friendly. he also suspects that more poor starting (knock with a hammer) is a low volatge problem. So we'll throw money at that first before we face the possibility of a new starter motor.

    Cheers, Shane

    Thanks for the feedback

isn't 433Mhz within the UHF radio range (thus may get inteference from UHF units)??
