Ok for my next stupid question, I would have thought using a rear diff in the front would result in the wrong rotation???

yeah brain fart I know ..I confused myself thinking about the custom fronts built out of rear 14b's with custom fronts built out of front HP D60s, which had me thinking LP rears in front were flipped to HP.

go easy on me, Im just a chippy, and we know the sparkies got all the brains

Its running full ashcroft gear front and rear and it hasnt broken yet, but may. Its a case study Who knows mate, but its holding together to date, so maybe theres your reason. If you really want to know, Maybe get on the phone to Andrew and have a chat to him about why he does what he does , at the same time maybe thank him for building some of the best Range Rover Classics and Disco's in the world, dont believe me, go check them out for yourself. Every build he makes is getting better, and at the end of the day is based on options the client chooses. If you want something not on the option list he will try to make it happen. Pegging done properly is not cheap or easy for the average punter, buying the built 3rd from Ashcroft is probably the easiest option imo
I'm in no way questioning LRAs ability to build and supply great parts and put together quality cars. I have use parts from them for years.
As for pegging a rover diff it's not rocket science and is very cheap to do. Even without a great knowledge in machining it can be done in a basic workshop or even any backyard shed. A search on this forum will show how it's done I bet or even YouTube it.
I guess I have always made my own adaptors to fit whatever engine or gearbox to what ever trans case I wanted at the time.
I just believe in build your own to get the most enjoyment out of it, not farm it out

I suspect my little 289 CI will put more load on the front diff than your Chev and I dont expect to many problems

I've always believed that drivers break axles. Even while comps (and by default due to ludicrous sized tyres recreational driving) become more & more extreme I believe the is still scope for being able to control things somewhat.

Have you seen the atomic axles? 9" centre, Porsche 930 CV's, massive axles. Custom housing with the centre raised, drop tubes. Looks like a solid IFS/IRS. High centre clearance but still low at the hubs, these with portals would be interesting.

Its beyond my capabilities, and im a big believer on doing what you do best with your time, lets the experts look after what they do best within reason. Research how ashcroft do it, not exactly unless you have a good welder and welding skills
