    Driving Lights on 2009 Defender

    After a bit of advice,

    I'm going to be giving my son a hand to fit driving lights/lightbar to his 2009 Defender.
    Seeking info from those that have done it as to where they picked up the high beam feed (trigger) for the relay, and the best way in and out of the cabin for any wiring.
    No doubt there's more than a few that have done this, so I'm after the tricks and easy ways.

    You can piggyback some existing wiring or the AM/FM antenna wire to get through the firewall. Open the bonnet and look high on the firewall. Alternatively you can drill through the plastic section of the transmission tunnel.

    On previous Puma I tapped into the high beam wire near the switch in the steering column shroud but it was a very awkward job. On my current car I have a traxide headlight wiring look upgrade and ran a wire from the appropriate terminal on the traxide relay to the switch for the driving lights and from there to the relay for the driving lights.

    IN my case I picked up the high beam feed from the LH headlight plug. Removed the spade connector and soldered on a wire which I then fed back to a relay mounted on a small aluminium bracket I pop riveted to the top edge of the LHS fender where it's just under the bonnet.
    From there I ran a heavy feed wire from the battery (via a fuse block in the battery compartment).
    Then of course a heavy pair of wires from the relay output to the driving lights.
    I didn't bother with a cabin mounted switch (not sure of the legality of this ) as I ALWAYS want the driving lights to switch on when I select high beam.
    If I ever do want the driving lights to be off when selecting high beam, it's pretty easy to lift the bonnet and pull a connector off the relay.
    Alternatively you could use a fused relay and simply pull the fuse.
    Saves a lot of hassle feeding wires through the firewall!

    As said previously, it's easy enough to feed a wire through the fire wall, just follow another wire. To pull the centre of the dash out (radio) it's quite easy and gives good access.
    For the trigger, solder into high beam wire at head light plug.

    Be sure to wire in a switch in the dash as it is a legal requirement!!

    Not legal. Although you would be unlucky to be pinged in SA with no roadworthy inspections. When I took cars for inspections in the NT they would confirm that there was a switch.
