Re-wirting engine management 99 disco 3.9.
In a quest to improve fuel usage, and add some power & throttle response to the low compression engine, is the engine managagement crackable (say like the holden one is) where U can re-programme the ECU fuel & timing on the 99 series 1 Disco.
I dont really wanna use a Unichip (or a similar piggyback engine computer), but I wanna tune the disco properly. 8)

Might cost a bit in dyno time but I'd guess anythings possible.

I got quoted $1250 (fitted and fully tuned) from Amberley autos in Dandenong VIC. This was for a piggy back aftermarket computer.

So does that mean you can't get the LR ECU rewritten and piggy back's the only option ?

BD4 Motorsport Gladsville would be the ones to ask. They tune everything from a Nana's Camry to Street Monsters.
From what I have read Unichip is a highly tunable bit of gear however you could have a fully programmable computer fitted for less such as a Wolf 3D with more functions and flexibility.
See how you go

Here is a little bit on a Haltech unit that is installed in a RR 4.6

I know I wouldn't mind doing this, I think the Wolf 3D is a bit cheaper though !! I could finally get rid of that stupid AFM !!

Mat
Have a look at an EMS made in syndey, these work great, you can tune them from a hand controler or lap top. Much easier to tune with a lap top however. You can down load the tunng program and have a look. Took us about 2 hours on a Dyno to tune my mate supercharged 393 chev. I reckon these are better than a wolf.
