Melting Defender Tail Lights

    Hi all

Has anyone had the tail lights on the defenders melt?

On my defender, both the the tail lights are warm to touch when on and both have distorted/melted by the continual heat. Not drastic, but are other people having this hapen??

My Defender had same problem and were replaced under warranty a few years ago, since then they have been fine.

They blamed the quality of the plastic of the stop lights, didn't happen to the parkers.

Yeah sounds like crook plastice lens or bulbs are too high watt..... usually if there's a small hole to let the heat out they tend not to buckle. If you wanted to be really clever could drill through the backing plate and run a small tubing into a sheltered cavity pointing up, that way the heat could get out but not allow dust and water in. thanks folks.

i think i am a little past warantee period, but as long as the new ones are o.k. i'll get around to replacing them soon...no hurry.

last thing I wanted was to replace them and have the same thing happen again

    cheers

i'd check your bulb wattage. if that turns out ok, and if your bulbs are the 2 filament type, (one for tail, one for brakes) i'd check that the right filament is lighting up at the right time. a brake light on all the time will generate a lot of heat and melt your lenses, they can only handle momentary operation
