Thread: Defender Bullbar and handbrake light

Hi Sniperator,

I had a TJM on a work Defender, it didn't look as good as the original LR one but was sturdy enough for the work I was doing with it. I didn't have a winch on it (god knows I needed it occasionally) but it had plates that covered the holes and you get used to it.

I recommend the winch though especially if you are going it alone, Turfa winches are good but all the energy expended could be saved by a good electric winch.

Brake lights? Don't know.

I have the landrover version of the arb bar. It is a winch bar but it looks like a non winch bar if you don't remove the cutouts. It mounts to the chassis the same as the original bumper but has two extra mounting points if you drill the holes through the chassis.

I have driven defenders with the tjm bar and find that they stick out a lot further and you can't mount three driving lights across the front.

As for your other problem, dare I say that 'the prince of darkness' strikes again.

I've got a factory one 6 months old for sale. Only changed it because the original wouldn't accept a hi-mount winch. Hit me off-line maxtd5def@yahoo.com.au.

As to your electrics, dunno. They are different? My Xtreme has one light for both.

When I was looking to buy a bullbar I spoke to ARB and TJM. The ARB winch bar was only <$100 more than tyhe non-winch version so I decided on a winch bar - an investment for the future when I can afford one.

I then spoke to TJM who advised that they don't do a Defender bar (perhaps they were only talking of the winch bar) but source them from ARB themselves. They also said ARB would be cheaper - to me that's good customer service.

Also ECB make a Defender bar, but only in a non-winch version.

I have a TJM alloy winch bar on my defender with no winch at the moment and it does stick out quite a bit further than a ARB. This is for when you hit a parrot and the weak as **** bullbar it does not fold back and bend your bonnet. Seriuoslly nice bar but very weak mounts. I personally think the ARB is too close to the bonnet but it is stonger than the TJM. I ma going to put a steel gusset behind mine and and redo the mounts with steel. I bought the ute with the bar allready on it..
