shocks, tires and wobbles?

hi im new here and just have a few q's
ive just got a late model 1993 3.9 la disco with the ma hubs (14000kms on the clock)

it had stuffed monroes on it, ive just replaced the front with rs5000 shocks which i got cheap, put i'm not sure if i like them
what should i put on the back, and use for the steering stabilizer? under $150/shock

ive lifted it 20mm, how high can i go before it costs money?

it rides on 15" rims, will 31x10.5x15 m/t fit with the 20mm lift?

its also got a bit of a wooble at around 100, had the tires balanced whiched improved it but not solved it, where are these shims u remove?

cheers

Firstly, welcome to AULRO!

i used procomps on mine when i had it. i think i paid around 100-120 per shock and they did the job well for my money.

the steering can behave a lot better with a new steering damper, i think many reckon the bilstein is the bee's knees.

you can adjust the shims on the pins in steering knuckles so that you have the correct preload on them. a good resource with in depth info on this sort of thing is www.discoweb.org

enjoy you stay at AULRO and hope you find the place usefull!

Why would you want an LSD? 8O
Save for a Airliocker or similar.

Ive used OME shocks and stabilisers on a few 4x4 and have had a good run.

Wobble can be
1. tyres/rims (try different shop using pin balancer
2. too much offsetm on rims leading to
3. swivel bearing preload
4. wheel bearings loose
5. bushes, panhard/radius

Bazzle

I was after shocks recently for my 109 SIII after I fitted parabolic springs. Ironman and Procomp were good, at about $140ea. The Bilsteins are a well built shocker, but seem to get bad editorials in o/seas Land Rover mads because their pins and eyes are smaller (hence weaker). The KONIs were $180ea for 10way adjustable shocks. IRONMAN told me their shocks were good for 40,000km. KONI told me theirs were good for 400,000km, well worth the extra $40 I reckon. I could only get KONI for the back and they made a tremendous difference. I used Procomp on the front.

My RR has Old Man Emu suspension (fitted by previous owner), I've done 180,000km since (cars now done 400,000km) and that suspension has been fine, on road, off road, with or without loads.
