    what does the littlegearstick do??

    I guys,

Just a quick question, What does the little gearstick do?

It does something if you move it from side to side, but there is no change pulling it back and forth.

I am serious with this question as the car came with no book and it is not going yet.

    Thanks

    Lobo

PS Also the little servo on the top of the box has a wire on it but i cannot find the wiring loom that it connects to as well as the handbrake electric wire. The loom seems to be missing. Any clues where it connects to?

What sort of Landy is it.

On my disco. the little gear leaver to the front of the main stick is the HI low range.
Forward, Low range. Middle, nutrual prostion. Rear Hi range. (wont do any thing really untilll you are moving). Move it to the left and you put it in to the centre diff lock position and can still move to forward and back wards in to low and hi.

    Hi ntguy,

The little stick on your Defender (and the Disco and Rangie) operates the transfer case and enables you to select high and low range and lock and unlock the centre differential (CDL).

    The pattern is an H.

The right hand leg allows you to choose between high range at the bottom and low range at the top. The centre differential remains unlocked.

If you move through the neutral (horizontal) to the left hand leg you lock the center differential. Again high range is at the bottom of the left leg and low is forward.

Generally speaking these operations take place while you are stationary and the main gearbox is in neutral.

When the centre differential is locked a light should illuminate on the dash to indicate this. The light should remain illuminated until it is dissengaged.

It is bad karma to drive on surfaces that don't allow the wheels to slip whilst the CDL is activated. Driveline windup.

    Hope this helps.

Must be a later model than mine as I've only got the "red" and "yellow" knobs. Red's forward(high two or high four) and back (low or front hubs out reverse parking range) with yellow plunger knob down being high four.

If it's and older one like the straight high/low maybe there's play in the selectors ? :?
