Rear main seal
Hello all,
I'm in the process of replacing engine and gearbox in my 81 rangie.
I've got the engine and box out and am changing the rear main seal while it's out. I figure I'll kick myself if I don't do it now and it starts leaking later on.
Anyway, I've removed the old seal ok, but it would appear the new seal goes in the other way around? it's marked in the direction of rotation and it goes counter to the seal that came out??? the old seal was labelled as turning clockwise if you're looking from the back of the engine. the new one is marked as turning anti-clockwise! What's going on here? The new seal looks identical except for the markings on it. Have I got the wrong part? or can I swing the new seal around so the faces are reversed and the crank spins the right way relative to the seal? Or do I forget the label on it, stick the seal in and forget about it?
Since I'm doing this as a preventative measure, I really want to do it properly.
I'm not pressed for time, so I can afford to wait a while and even send the part back and get a replacement, but I thought I'd try the brains trust here and see what comes back!
I'll be in Brisbane for a few days from tomorrow, so I'll check replies when I get back.
Cheers,
Bryan

Sounds like then it's the right seal. Makes me wonder why the old seal is the reverse or the new one. :?
