I run 15 (15w60) in winter and 30(20w60) in summer in Brisbane. I use 40 (25w60)in my Jags.
how many k's has your engine done
that is what i was thinking, going for the hpr30 in summer
It's done 135k I have owned it since 60k and change it every 5k including a filter.
I've got a 3.5EFI RR on LPG. I use HPR GAS and change it every 5,000. The motor's done 400,000km (396,000 actually) and the gas was fitted at 350,000km. Prior to LPG I used HPR 30 all year 'round.
Many years ago I had a Nissan 3 litre deisel in my SIII. I drove up to the Kimberley where I stayed for 5 or so years. I used HPR30 initially, but after my stock ran out I was unable to get Pentrite locally and I tried BP, Shell and Mobil oils. None performed as well as the HPR30. The Penrite oil ran 5-10 degrees C cooler and maintained a higher oil pressure when hot.
I run HPR15 in my Disco too, has 133,000 kms so far, filter and oil change every 5000 km's as well since 90,000 km's. Have been thinking about changing to the HPR30, but can't think of any reason why I should change ??? I think when I change the oil next time I'll get it checked by e-mointor, will be intertesting to see the results, will post results.. http://www.e-monitor.com.au/

Hi All
Reading your comments, can you clarify the following.
I've 96 Disco 3.9 with approx 142,000 Ks on LPG with
flashlub kit fitted.
Went to local Auto shop where they recommended Penrite HPR10
Said thin when starting lubricates upper engine quicker then
thickens when normal operating tempreture reached.
Should I be using HPR15 or 30 or
HPR Gas (which they never mentioned)
Can someone explain the diffrence in oil based on numerical
value ie HPR10 as to say HPR15 ..... HPR30
Engine runs quiet with no noticable change in engine oil tempriture.
Your thoughts appreciated,
Cheers
Baggy
The rating first number of an an oil ie 10w(w is for winter) is the viscosity when cold, lower the number the thiner the oil, the thinner the oil the quicker it will pump up. HPR gas will have different additive package more suited to they way lpg burns and what it leaves behind for the oil to clean up. Remeber that one of the oils prime jobs is to clean up what is left behind by combustion. I think that the Penrite web site recomends 30 for these engines when on petrol. HPR 30 is actually 20w60 hpr 15 is 15w60, HPR 40 is what 30 used to be which is 25w60.
Shaunp,
Thanks for clarifying the ratings on the oil.
Will look at going to HPR15 / 30 at my next oil change.
Appreciate your imput
Cheers
