Yes they will fit. I had some as road tyres for my old series 3.
They didn't rub at all (well not much - only on the inner rear guard but that doesnt matter)
If you find the hit the spring packs, just wind out the steering stops abit.
I have a series 3 swb, I have an opportunity to buy some defender rims and I am thinking of putting 235-85-16 tyres on them. Question is will the fit a series 3 ok and will that rim tyre combo have ok clearence on the steering etc. I have found out that these are 5 1/2 inch rims as opposed to wider ones that came with the 130. Just out of curiosity does anyone know what size rim I have. I have looked but do not know where to measure.
Also I am expecting a better ride than the standard series 3 rims with big block tread tyres. What do you think,
Cheers
John

You will find that 235/85 16's should be on a rim of at least 6" width.
Or so I'm told. That's why I replaced mine with Disco wheels.
Well, that's the reason I told SWMBO, in any event
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

so are series 3 steel wheels as fitted originally any different to the defender steel wheels or are they the same. I am talking about the defender 5 1/2 inch rims as fitted for the last 8 years or so?
Vlad I think you will find most D90's were fitted with 51/2 wide steel rims with 235/85x16 tyres from the factory.Originally posted by VladTepes

Also Series were fitted with 7.50x16 whereas Defenders went for the metric version 235/85x16 - slightly wider.

the sIII swb came out with smaller tyres on 5 in rims.
the extra 1/2 in was on the inside of the rim [inset]
defenders have the 5 1/2 in rim with the [extra] 1/2 in to the outside.
the stud spacing and wheel nuts are all the same, they are nearly [except the offset] the same as sII/III lwb rims
Hi John
Yes defender 5.5 rims will fit on any series landy the only difference is the rim offset, The rim Part No's are stamped between the wheel stud holes on the outside (usualy painted over) Series 2/2a LWB is 272309. SWB is 239601 the Series 3 LWB had larger size wheel studs and nuts, the rim also had a stamped raised section between the stud holes. the Part No for these are AYG 3038 they are all 5.5 inch rims The SWB was fitted with 5.0 inch rims and 600x16 tyres, 7.50x16 imperial size equals 235-85 x16 Metric and therefore poses no problem. the Defender Rims offset differs only to accomodate the Disc brakes
