I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    vac standards are

<500 micon and must hold for one hour with less than 100 micron rise

purging with dry nitrogen lets you get teh vac to 50000 micron but you have to do it three times

if you do the oil and purge the system R290 an R600 can be used and do not require a lisense to purchase.

good luck purchasing it if you can answer the questions.

Plus a gauge manifold suitable for the refrigerant you're going to be using.
Plus a vacuum gauge to be sure that you've fully evacuated the system & there's no leaks before you recharge.
    Plus a suitable Arctick licence.
    Plus a reclaim cylinder.
Plus a bottle adaptor for the above.
Plus, preferably, some copper pipe & the means to connect it to the system, the vac pump, and the refrigerant cylinder - without losing the vacuum (Gauge hoses aren't usually rated for vacuum, best practice is to use Cu pipe instead. However, for a one-of use hoses should be fine).

Also be aware that in Qld. & possibly other states, you actually DO need a separate licence on top of the Arctick one to handle flammable refrigerants. It's managed by the Dept. of Mines iirc. The licensing course costs $500.

    Edit: here's the link: http://mines.industry.qld.gov.au/saf...frigerants.htm

    Hi Dave

Sorry mate, you're a little out of date on that.
Qld. Gov't have recently introduced a new, legally required, license for handling flammable refrigerants:
Hydrocarbon refrigerants | Mining and safety | Queensland Government

Looks like it doesn't include auto air,so maybe some other rules somewhere do cover it.

Seems it covers fixed appliances only.

Geeez they love to complicate things, more compliances, suppose it justifies a few more jobs for public servants and more confusion and costs for the industry

Well, I admit I haven't read it yet. You'd think, wouldn't you, that Arctick would be taking care of this instead of Mining?
Anyway, it's a good excuse to refuse R32 work! Lol

Edit: Actually, they do include any mobile refrigerating appliance http://mines.industry.qld.gov.au/saf...-approvals.htm

Appliance in this case means device for producing a refrigerating effect, I think. As allowed to 'white goods' appliances.

Funny how thats not what they just taught us on the aircon course that Im now doing for the third bloody time.

R290, R 600 no liscence and feel free to not bother recovering it, just vent it to atmo.

Yeah, I think the industry's been caught on the hop. Very few people seem to know about this yet, I only found out by chance / luck. You'd think Gov't would be making sure everyone involved would know, wouldn't you?
