    Discovery 1 lift

Hi everyone, sorry i am new to this so i didn't know where to put this! I have a 97 300tdi disco and i want to get it lifted, i have heard of both a body lift and suspension lift, however i just wanted to know what the real difference is between them and what is better? Also if there are any good sites online to look around on!
    Much appreciated

a suspension lift lifts it at the chassis, so everything but the axles goes up, this increases your ramp over, approach and departure angles as well as getting you some increase in clearance for larger wheels if you also lengthen the bump stops.

if you go over 2 inches you need to look at changing some parts of the suspension setup brake lines and steering to reset the relative geometry on the vehiles running gear.

A body lift just gets the body clear of the chassis, It lets you fit larger tyres and thats about it on the disco as everything else like the front bar and the tow pack bolts to the chassis.

Both raise the center of gravity the suspension lift more than a body lift

    G'day and Welcome

You can fit 2 inch lift springs without having to do any other steering or driveline modifications, after that you may need an engineers certificate/plate,I have just replaced my front springs and shockers,on our 99 300TDI Disco1,Dobinsons std height, and it lifted it 2 inches in the front and will be fitting new rears shortly,Dobinsons also do a 2 inch lift spring with matching shockers, I got mine from Repco and Repco Max-Trak nitro shockers about $300 + the lot fitted them ourselves.

Higher lifts than that can be done using cranked radius rods and lowered shocker mounts both front and rear,British Off Road in Qld carry that sort of stuff

They will most things straight out of the showroom, and will probably better a lifted Patrol

    cheers

    Cheers!
So a 2 inch suspension lift is a recommended height when lifting without changing or extending any other parts?

Yes, but I would suggest you fit longer brake flexible hoses.

I have both a 300TDI Disco 1 and an 85 Range Rover (same chassis and suspension)

Blknight.aus is close to you why not PM him and have a chat.

    cheers

    on that note.

    I forgot to add..

I reccomend the suspension stuff mates rate gear for generic replacement suspension.

you can buy better, you can buy cheaper, you cant by better for cheaper.

I've lost count of the various kits of theres I've fitted up.

Im running their mates rates 2 inch lift kit. which for the $700 we paid for it has provided stirling service for the last three years.
