How much will it sag....?

Hi Guys,

Looking for advice from those that may know...

I have a series 2 Disco > No Bull bar.

I have a chance to get an ARB winch bar at a really good price.

I've been told though, that the extra weight will drop the front end significantly and I'll need to do the springs. ( I will not YET have a winch)

Wondering if it's smarter to buy the bar.... put it in the shed until I can afford to do all the spings as well... ( eventually would like a 2" lift)..

.... or just get the bar and worry about the rest when the finances allow it.....

Any thoughts... or experiences that might help ?????

Probably not real helpful, but...

My bullbar weighs about 90kgs (it's a big steel heap of ...). Try standing on the front bumper (if you weigh around that!), and get someone to take some "before and after" side-on photos of the Disco. It might give you some indication of how far it'll sag.

I know when I bolted my bullbar to the front of my Range Rover, the front wheels filled the wheelarches like the wheels on a Commodore. Have to keep in mind though, that was with the original softest springs that came with a Rangy.

I have a friend with a D2. The TJM bar (without winch) caused the front to drop noticeably. He has subsequently upgraded his springs all round with a 1" lift. The price of springs is relatively inexpensive...threads elsewhere.
But be assured your stock springs will result in a nose down attitude.

He had some problems getting the spring rates right. The mob who did it are experienced Land Rover specialists and claimed that D2's are not easy to ge right. :?

You will get away with installing the bar but not changing the springs for a while. The Disco's are about 10mm lower in the rear as standard so after the bar you might end up 10-20mm lower in the front.

Springs are very cheap. You can get off the shelf springs for about $90/pair. Dobinson's in QLD is wheere I got mine and delivered they were $108/pair. Just remember if you stay at standard height then you standard shocker's will be OK but if you want to lift it at all then you will need new/longer shocks which is where the money starts (around $160 each).

If you upgrade from standard 150lb/inch to 180lb/inch then you will keep the Disco riding at standard height with the bar on.

Thanks guys....

I'll do the stand on the front thing...
(I'm a nice light 106kg.- So that should simulate the lump of steel quite well. :? .)
... then as long as it isn't too silly I think I'll do the bar and wait till the budget allows for the suspension properly..

appreciate the advice..

Standing on the front is good for an instant result, but the nose will continue to drop under the weight of the bar.
