    12V Battery charging

The old 955 John Deere tractor failed to start yesterday,, just a click at the key. At the request of the owner I attached my trusty little Battery Fighter charger,, well tried to as the battery on these are tucked away quite well, so the clips were attached to the starter post and an frame earth. The charger cycled through its stages for some time and finally decided on the absorption stage. 24 hours later and its still absorbing. no idea on battery size.
I would have thought, with only a click, it would have gone to "bulk".

    could this be normal?
or is it trying to tell me something

    not the real one!!
The battery is supposedly "only new'

Hi Pedro and the battery is probably stuffed.

    BUT.

See if you can get at the battery and try jump starting the mower.

Then when you have run the motor for some time, again, try your battery charger.

Those little chargers sometimes can’t get enough charge into the very low charged battery so they go into absorption mode.

If you can get some charge into the battery while running the motor, the charger may then be able to charge the battery.

BTW, if your charger can be made to charge that battery, your “LITTLE” charger will actually do a better job of charging that battery than a big charger will.

A long slow charge will do more to charge and “recondition” the battery than a fast charge will.
