Thread: Disco 2 with no power.

V8 4ltr Symptoms, little power and torque and transmission will not go into economy
mode ( Torque converter lockup under 80km/hr ) even with light throttle.
To correct this issue, (only if you know about electrical )
1) fit the biggest sealed calcium or better battery that fits.
2) Disconnect battery -ve
3) Disconnect/reconnect all engine sensor/engine ecu connecters.
4) Reconnect battery and test. If still no power, go to next step.
5) go to rimmer bros web site in UK and purchase a new MAF,(mass airflow) sensor. The after market sensor will do the trick, fit and test.
The auto with light throttle shoud now lock up in 4th at approx 55km/hr,and
the engine should now have notably more power and torque.

Granted, if the camshaft lobes are worn then my replacing the MAF sensor
wouldn't have made a difference. However, there is such a difference, it is
a totally different vehicle to drive. Allow me to explain, the MAF sensor,
tells the engine ecu how much air is entering the engine.
The ecu then determines how much fuel to inject depending upon throttle
position, engine/inlet air temp, engine rpm and if the MAF sensor is faulty,
then the ecu goes into a limp mode. The transmission ecu also goes into a
limp mode, and will not go into 4th lockup untill 80kms/hr even with it set
in economy mode. It was worth the $60 for my vehicle.
