In the circa 1950 Series 1 Land Rover expedition from London to Singapore, done by a combined Cambridge-Oxford team, they found that placing wet towels on the floor significantly reduced cabin dust levels during desert crossings. A book of the expedition entitled "First Overland" makes for fascinating reading. Unfortunately I lent my copy to someone 15 years ago. If anyone comes across a copy at a 2nd hand book shop, be sure to buy it.

Another hint is to seal any small holes (such as around the tail lights or floor). Just a pin hole can suck dust in if the cab has a lower air pressure to the atmosphere.
Sorry to get a little off the thread here, but if you're interested, they're redoing that run next year sometime. 50 year aniversary of the trek looks like, as the original was in 1955.
Info should be found at www.golden-overland.com
Haven't looked at the site yet, but got the info from land rover world mag.

    and then oil leaking out.....

its a land rover its designed to leak....

your crossing a river and it fills up with water...
ballast!!! the toyota behind is floating down the river!!!

    oils leak out....
drain them all.... everything has a drain plug

    dust gets in ....
keep the lid on the esky or keep the engel shut and wear overalls..
or you can just gladwrap the whole thing front to back, but not the grill.

im a land rover technician...i have lots of solutions for different problems...
theres also a selleys kit available..comes with a free caulking gun.

    hope this helped

rmp did you manage to do anything about dust sealing around the rear door?

I have exactly the same issue as you....a guy an LR in Brookvale told me some people are fitting millitary dust seals to the rear door to improve things....but its pretty expensive.......300 or more I think

would be interested to know if you sorted anything....
