The release button on the centre console of my P38A snapped across its width this week. I tried what glues I had but they did nothing so I resorted to research via the 'net.
I saw some posts about repairing ABS and decided to try one of them.
Basically, it involves making some ABS glue by dissolving ABS in acetone to make a thin glue. The suggestion was to use a drill bit to make ABS swarf which is dissolved in the acetone. I had a piece of ABS of the same colour so I drilled lots of holes and collected the ABS swarf and dissolved it in acetone.
I can report it works a treat. I couldn't break the part with a reasonable level of force. The button is now back in service.
How many P38A Rangies have broken buttons?
I have a number of other parts in the P38A which have cracked or broken over the years so I'll make up a batch of light grey glue to repair those. I need to find a spare piece of grey trim in all my boxes of bits.
I might even take photos of the process.
