Hi All
Just interested to know what people have done to reduce the risk of the TD5's ECU getting a tad wet when undertaking water crossings. Has anyone relocated their ECU?
Without undertaking any additional waterproofing, what is the maximum depth people are game to undertake?
Regards

Did you use the membrane treatment on both the inside and outside of the seat box?
Got any pics handy? This sounds like a much simplier solution to relocatting the ECU.
just inside the box
not 100% waterproof but not bad

Hi Hiline
Being almost waterproof could lead to problems.A small amount of moisture could cause increased humidity which electronics hate.Would it be worth putting a cloth bag filled with the silica crystals used in pill bottles in there for insurance??????

got it from a tile shop
they put on the walls to waterproof the plaster on floors
LandyAndy as to the box being waterproof
it is only the bottom of the box and the sides the lid is still left as is
if i was to have problems all you would need to do is drill a couple of holes in lid
but never had a problem as yet .......

I'm thinking what sort of "water crossing" you had in mind. Bit of a wade up to the lowers of the doors or a snorkelling type crossing with water completely over the hood, provided the motor has a snorkel of course and you're up to it. That would dictate how much sealing needs to be done.
The other thing is how easily could the module be sealed up with silicone ? You'd have to get the right type of silicone as some are corrosive, then seal up the module case pushing the sealant into the wire plugs and cracks. Perhaps put it in a shower cap and seal shut with silicone ?
I used silicone on mine, being a petrol, for the motor electricals, all my relays, dizzy and air intake. If I can only work out a way to use the stuff on my doors and still open them, they leak like rusted downpipe in summer rain.
Neat idea Andrew, wouldn't think of something like that.
Hellspawn, have a look in the General chat forum. Make BB' day and post this in the Thread (Simple tricks and fixes) he has going concerning tips like this.
What sort of silicone is ok to use?
Cheers Tyrepower.
The other one I have heard of is the airtight tupperware container, however you would still need some form of sealant to address where the cables access the container.
I would also be cautious about what type of sealant you use, from other experiences I have known of them to be extremely corrosive.
